Aims
The Centre for Vision
Research, through collaborative research, aims to:
- Describe the pattern and
causes of eye disease leading to vision loss in Australians, in both
older and younger age groups.
- Identify risk factors for
individual eye diseases and vision loss, particularly modifiable factors
that could prevent eye disease.
- Promote better eye health
for Australians through screening for eye disease in groups at risk
and by striving to reduce modifiable risk factors.
- Investigate strategies to
reduce the various impacts of vision loss on dependency and other conditions,
like falls and fractures.
- Examine links between vision
loss and systemic conditions and their treatments, particularly diabetes,
vascular problems like stroke and age-related cognitive decline.
- Describe the pattern, causes,
risk factors and impacts of hearing loss in older Australians and investigate
links with vision loss.
- Educate the public and health
professionals about eye disease and vision loss.
- Work with other partners
to achieve aims of the VISION2020 Australia program.
- Collaborate with other
groups performing allied work both in Australia and internationally.
- Translate research findings
into clinical practice.
